Building Care
💡 ⛪️ Property continues to convert lighting to LED. Thank you to Jerry Harned for converting several fixtures to LED recently—3 in the bathroom hall, and 1 in the women's bathroom, and 4 in the conference room.
Additionally, Matt Shultz replaced a burned-out light on the roof and removed standing water from the fixture and sealed with silicone 3 flood fixtures.
Areas of the roof were patched in needed areas (until funding is available for a full roof replacement).
The music room’s gutter, which was full of leaves, was cleaned to a length of 40 feet.
Immediate Attention
Sanctuary Windows
Although the sanctuary windows require new glazing, the existing wood frames are deteriorating. Reglazing them would be a short-term solution and ultimately not cost-effective. Replacing the entire windows is the more fiscally responsible option.
Roof Replacement
The church roof is in critical condition, exhibiting active leaks and material degradation. A complete roof replacement is essential.
HVAC System Replacement
Three remaining HVAC units, each approximately 20 years old, are still operational but nearing the end of their functional life. While semi-annual preventative maintenance has extended their viability, each unit is subject to sudden failure, necessitating immediate replacement without prior warning.
Huge thanks to Matt Shultz and Jerry Harned for their faithful service in hours weekly to ensure our building is up and running, handling repairs as they are able, and ensuring safety.
We are grateful for the support that makes these repairs possible. Every gift helps us steward this sacred space with care, and to continue to sustain our required financial obligations. If you feel called to share your talents in being a part of our property team, please contact the church office or Matt Shultz.

An Ordinary Hero: Conversation with Joan Trumpauer Mulholland
Sunday, June 22 | 3 – 5 PM (includes a reception)
GSLC worship space & online (accessibility features)
Public event – all are welcome - 💻 Register
What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
In the 1960s, Joan Trumpauer Mulholland was a White college student from the South who put herself on the front lines of the Civil Rights struggle. She participated in the Freedom Rides, enrolled as the first White student at Tougaloo College, contributed to the Jackson sit-in movement, and was active in the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).
Join us for an impactful conversation with Joan and her son Loki Mulholland, an author and documentarian. They'll share how Joan's faith led her to accompany her Black friends and others in the struggle against racial injustice in our country and commit her life to this ongoing work.
Joan and Loki will also discuss racial justice in the current moment and the importance of our individual and community efforts, no matter how big or small, in the collective struggle for equality for all.
There will be time for some questions and answers at the end and a reception and book signing will follow at 4 PM.
Questions? Contact Lori Strauss.
The Lord’s Wake
The Metro D.C. Synod Youth + Family Ministry Team invites youth and families from the Metro D.C. and Delaware-Maryland Synods to a day of fun, fellowship, and faith at the lake! Come to The Lord’s Wake – Youth + Family Day at Leesylvania State Park on Friday, June 27, for games, a shared lunch, and a special devotional reflecting on the faith-filled ripples we create in the world.
The event will be held at Picnic Pavilion #4 (handicapped accessible with restrooms, water, electricity, and a grill). We’ll gather from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, but the pavilion is reserved from 8:00 AM to dusk—feel free to arrive early or stay a bit longer on your own!
Cost: Just the $10/vehicle entrance fee to the park. Need help covering that? Let us know—we’ve got you covered.
Click here to register by Monday, June 23.
There is no lifeguard on duty—adult supervision is required for youth who plan to swim. Bring your beach towels, walking shoes, or simply your picnic spirit—and join us for WAKE 2025
